This website is made for the purpose of being a portfolio and showcasing the different projects I have made as well as my profile as a junior developer.

Process

The website is built on HTML with some Bootstrap elements and CSS formatting as well as some JavaScript for the functionality of the site.

Learnings

Before this project I had some CSS knowledge but had never built a HTML website before. I started my learning the basics of HTML and building the website from that. This project is ongoing and I always have more features I want to add to it.

About

The Sustainable Ship Configurator is a tool created with Business Finland for showcasing and comparing different sustainability solutions in the Finnish maritime industry. The website is interactive and different components of the ship can be changed while monitoring the emission changes.

Process

The task for this project was to create a tool to showcase the sustainability solutions but the method to display the data was for the team to decide. We came up with multiple different options and together with the client decided on the result.

This project was created with Next.js framework using TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, Next.js, and React with a team of five people. As a leader for this project my key responsibilities were keeping the project on the road and in schedule. I also took part in designing the overall appearance as well as programming different components.

Learnings

This was my first project using JavaScript, Next.js, and React, and I learned a lot about them during the project. I also learned how to be a team leader and lead the team to the finish line with great results. The client was very pleased with the outcome of this project and we also got a great grade for this six month capstone university course.

About

A 2D version and a retelling of The Stanley Parable game I made for my Master's Thesis. The purpose of this project was to reproduce important elements in the original Stanley Parable game in a different format and have people test the game and give feedback regarding their gaming experience. This is a much smaller version of the original game and the full playthrough of this version takes about 15 minutes.

Process

The Stanley Parable Retelling is built with Unity game engine using Visual Studio and C# programming language. The making of this game combined the use of different assets, Unity’s own building tools, programming, and combining different elements.

Learnings

Before this project, I had never used C# or Unity for more than a few practice projects. I learned how the mechanics of a 2D top-down game work as well as how to incorporate my ideas in the implementation of a game. This was also the largest project I had ever built and took a lot of time and patience. .

About

This AR Solar System application is created for an AR/VR course for university with a project partner. In our solar system there are eight planets orbiting around the sun as well as around their own axis. We also added four of the largest moons in our solar system. Each of the planets, moons, and the Sun can be interacted with by pressing on them, which opens an image that tells the user some information about the celestial bodies. The image can be viewed even when putting the device down and the image will be closed only by pressing on the image. This is very convenient since this way them user doesn’t have to hold the device up the entire time.

Process

We created an AR Solar System on ARFoundation using C#, Unity, and ARCore. In addition to Unity we also utilized Canva and Blender with making graphics and assets for the project. In this project I was mostly responsible for coding and also putting together assets and scripts in Unity. My project partner did modeling for some of the assets and we both contributed in making the graphics.

Learnings

This project was my first time using the Unity engine and during this project I learned the basics of it quite well. One of the biggest difficulties for us was getting the UI elements to recognize touch, therefore we spent a lot of time on this aspect and also learned a lot about it. Searching for information on how to do certain parts of an application also took a great portion of our time with the project. We learned to utilize various different sources of information as well as use our own deduction skills to combine different forms of information.

About

A classic snake game app created as a university project.

Process

The game is created with Java with graphical interface created with JavaFX Scene Builder. The design and UI are created with a project partner and the functionality is programmed by me.

Learnings

I learned how to create a simple game in Java. I also learned time management as well as teamwork since I completed this project with a partner. Overall, I think we created a great playable game and learned a lot from it.

About

A locally played version of the two-player game battleship. At the beginning each player places their ships on their board and after the game starts each player tries to sink the other player’s ships. Whoever is able to sink the other player’s ships first is the winner of the game. This game was completed as a small group project on a university Java programming course.

Process

I was in charge of the logic and coding behind the game as well as some of the aesthetics of it. My teammates created the ship assets, board, and overall appearance of the game. This game was built using Java as well as JafaFX SceneBuilder.

Learnings

This was my first larger Java program and during the course I was able to grasp the essence of Java development.
